THE DESIGN & MAKE PROCESS:

A Guide to what’s involved for Bespoke work

STAGE 1 : INITAL DESIGN

The process starts with a brief being mapped out together. Specific requirements, such as intended location of the furniture, its use, dimensions etc. are established early on, alongside ideas that may influence style and form. Some projects will be more involved than others, it all depends on the nature of the commission, and whether or not you are ordering based on a design from the portfolio. An initial sketch proposal is usually worked up as part of this stage, alongside and preliminary quote.

STAGE 2 : REFINEMENT & QUOTING

Design options are worked on with further detail. Alongside sketch proposals, computer modelling is often used to give a clearer idea on how the design could look. Proportions, scale and size are crucial elements of a design, and these can be easily modified at this stage. An estimated cost is then provided, sometimes with further options outlined. Depending on the complexity of the commission, a design fee may be applicable at this stage.

STAGE 3: THE MAKING PROCESS

This is a hugely exciting stage as the concepts, drawings and sketches are realised. As the piece develops, photographic updates are provided where possible, and of course there will be select opportunities to tweak and modify a design as it evolves. Preparatory jigs and templates may be required for some items, and time estimates for completion will usually take this into account.
